I had my final post-surgical (6 month) follow up on Thur. I am now released from surgical follow up. When the surgeon and I were discussing who should provide continuing care in the days ahead, we were going down the checklist of symptoms and where each one stood. When we arrived at “bowels”, I was talking big about how I was pretty consistent – a normal day or 2 of 1 – 2 normal BM’s, followed by a big day (5 – 7 BM’s, but no diarrhea), then 2 days of no BM’s. Then the cycle repeats. I told him that I usually get a “2 minute warning” of having a BM. So no need of a specialist in that area.
Next day. Friday. Sitting at home Friday night cleaning up a hard drive on the home network. Wife walks by and comments that my fart sounded wet & smells different than usual (sufferers of Cauda Equina Syndrome are prodigious producers of flatulence) so I had better check it out. I didn’t have any warning signs, and not being able to feel in that area, I took her advice lightly. As it was about bedtime, a few minutes later I went to put on my nighttime diaper.
Should have listened to the wife. Had a fine mess to clean up!
First time in 5 months. Right after bragging. Proverbs 16:18 (NKJV) – “Pride goes before destruction, And a haughty spirit before a fall.” & Galatian 6:14 (NKJV) – “But God forbid that I should boast except in the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world” both come to mind.
Sound advice. I’ll keep my mouth in check in the future!
